Housing programs in Chester County will receive $3.08 million through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement fund. “These funds will allow our local organizations to continue providing their critical services, as well as expand in order to better serve our residents,” state Rep. Carolyn Comitta said in a press release. “Affordable housing is key to attracting and retaining the diverse population that makes Chester County a special place.”
The grant money will be used to improve services addressing homelessness, housing affordability, and other related programs. According to the Chester County Department of Community Development, on any given night, 570 people experience homelessness in Chester County. The PHARE fund is managed by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, and funds are sourced from Marcellus shale fees, realty transfer taxes and the national housing trust fund.
